When Solomon Louis' commanding officer overheard him speaking Choctaw with friends, he demanded to know how many in the battalion were fluent in the language. But they weren't in trouble as Louis initially thought. The Americans had a wire-tapping problem and had finally found the solution. Louis and seven others were assigned to each of the regiment’s field headquarters. Navajo Code Talker John Kinsel Sr., one of the last living members of the U.S. Marine Corps who used their native language as an impenetrable code during WWII, recently passed away at the age of 107.
