Before the success of Australian cult classic Kath & Kim, Jane Turner and Magda Szubanski’s television collaborations included D-Generation (1985–87) followed by Fast Forward that was a small screen hit between 1989 - 1992. Fast Forward, directed by Ted Emery and writer-performers Gina Riley and Glenn Robbins, appeared at the height of the sketch comedy boom on Australian television in the late ’80s which tapped into a thriving live comedy-cabaret scene in Melbourne.
